Freedom Walker presented a 40 day prayer guide for our country, as a memento of this historic walk, to the city of Twentynine Palms in care of Mayor Joel Klink.

Then Mayor Klink presented mementos to Freedom Walker: a city pin, a ‘cinch-up’ backpack, a shirt, and a book of Soldiers stories from Iraq and Afghanistan.

As we arrived at City Hall, we were first met by Brenda, with the Community Development Department, who introduced us to Mayor Joel Klink, who was waiting for us.

Mayor Klink introduced City Manager, Frank Luckino, who welcomed Freedom Walker.

Mayor Klink, City Manager Luckino, and City Clerk Villescas had just been reading about Pastor “Chick” and are appreciative of what he is doing.

Thanks to Cindy Villescas, City Clerk, for arranging this meeting, as well as to Brenda, Mayor Klink, and City Manager Luckino for your support.

Along the road today, there were many honks and salutes. A few stopped to talk, offer water, take pictures, etc.

We ate at the Bamboo Garden in Twentynine Palms. Sheree, our server, asked many questions to learn about this walk.

We met Luis, who is a craftsman. He gave Freedom Walker a ladybug stone that he made, as a “good luck charm”, a token of wishing him well.

Our first encounter today occurred when Freedom Walker was sitting in the car to let his feet dry. A highway patrolman parked behind us and walked up to see if we were broken down. After he learned about the walk, he appreciated it and said “If you need anything, let us know”.

Bill and Kristin, from Boston, parked near the pace car and walked over to ask me about the walk. They were excited and took a picture of me by the car, then drove down the road to talk with Freedom Walker and take his picture.

Rebecca and Lisa stopped in the road to ask what we are walking for (both of us were walking at the time). When they learned that we don’t mind stopping to talk, they parked on the shoulder so they could learn more. Vivian showed Freedom Walker her American flag and we met Roland and Noah. These three wanted to know what Freedom Walker was doing. Lisa (from North Carolina) and Rebecca live in LA and said this walk is awesome.

This morning we got an extra early start – close to 6:00 AM. It was cool, but not windy like yesterday, so it was not too cold. The route was pretty straight and easy for the most part. Parts of the shoulder had been worked on, making the possibility of getting stuck in the sand minimal.

Freedom Walker passed by a small airport just outside of Twentynine Palms and entered the city limit just before the stopping point for today.
