Sabbath Interests

On Sabbath (Saturday), we visited an SDA church and met with several people interested in our walk. Below are pictures of some of them.

We left Thoreau and drove to Manuelito, where Cross-Country Flagman started his walk for the day.

Soon, after starting, I met Emerson, who drove up and asked me what we are doing. He said that had driven to pick up someone in the boonies, but his truck got stuck,he turned around, and was on his way back, when he saw us. He agrees that Christians must stand up for what they believe in and that we need to put God back in the country.

This morning we drove back east to Thoreau, New Mexico because Pastor Chick was invited yesterday to visit a church where they feed the homeless breakfast. On the way, we saw the beginnings of a beautiful sunrise.

As we were looking for the correct place, Cross-Country Flagman met some people interested in the walk.

At the church, we met a couple of self-sacrificing ladies, who were there to prepare breakfast for all who came by – Louise Begay and Carol Pinto. They agreed enthusiastically with our causes.

As we were leaving we met Personna and Chevelle Edsitty, as they were going in, who were also interested in the walk.

After lunch, we visited City Hall.

We were welcomed by Kitty, who learned about the walk as we waited the time of our appointment with Mayor McKinney.

We presented a memento of this historic walk to Mayor Jackie McKinney, who said that he appreciates us coming through Gallup, that this is an area in need, and he wishes us the best in our travels. He also requested that when we finish, we send him a copy of what we write up about the walk, saying “I am in awe of people like you.”

There were two roadside encounters that I know of. One was a veteran that stopped and asked what Freedom Walker was doing. The second was Tim who said “I’m proud of what you’re doing!”

At lunch, there were at least two groups that were interested.

In the first group, one of the women said that she had seen Freedom Walker walking and desired to invite him to a free breakfast prepared for the homeless in Thoreau. Today she got that opportunity.

In the second group, a little boy took special interest in Pastor Chick. He received a walk card to keep so that he can remember that he met this pastor and veteran who hand-carried the American flag from coast to coast.

The third group wanted a picture of Pastor Chick with their little boy (who also received one of our walk cards) – and you can see the picture they took posted separately by MMsquare Marc Morgan.

Today started out on the cold side, but it became warm and beautiful later. It was a great walking day. Today’s walk was 11.6 miles.

A couple met us at the finish line. Emilio gave Pastor Chick tokens of his deep appreciation for his service (by means of this walk) to this country. He showed him how these tokens are to be placed by showing him his Ranger cap.
