Today, there were a few roadside encounters – most them walking on the forestry road through Kaibab National Forest.

A veteran from the Army stopped and thanked him for what he is doing.

A sheriff vehicle stopped. The two women inside were friendly and interested in what he is doing. They wished him safety and luck on his journey.

Pete stopped and said he lives off of the forestry road. He was glad to hear about the walk and causes.

Another couple stopped and said they live nearby and usually walk in the forest daily. They were very interested in the walk.

This morning we got a late start – close to 11:30 AM. The temperature was warm starting out, but the wind kicked up causing it to feel much colder.

Part of the walk was on I-40, and Cross-Country Flagman started wearing a safety green vest today – but not as a vest because the words on his shirt need to be seen.

The rest of the walk was through the Kaibab National Forest, where he had some roadside encounters.

After walking 13.6 miles through Flagstaff and west to the outskirts outside of city limits, the walk for the day ended. Freedom Walker walked through snow again this afternoon, but the sun was shining brightly as today’s walk ended

We drove to the office of the Arizona Daily Sun, where Suzanne Adams-Ockrassa interviewed him.

Since it was snowing again, it was more difficult for me to keep up with all of the contacts that expressed interest, but I did get a few pictures.

First is of a man that Freedom Walker talked with on a busy corner we often pass by.

A short distance down the road I saw Freedom Walker walking with a man who was interested in this walk.
Then I saw him with a photographer – Jake Bacon with the Arizona Daily Sun.

Another interest toda was Johnny Girdner with Teva Shoes. Teva donated two pair of shoes for this walk (before the walk started), but they turned out to be too small. Freedom Walker gave one pair away to Daniel Contestabile, who is also on a mission across the country, but kept the second pair. Today Johnny accepted this pair in exchange for a larger size. Thank you to Teva and Johnny for your support of this walk!

This morning, we woke up to more snow accumulation. It was so cold that we found that the driver’s door on the pace car was frozen shut. Finally we got it open, but then it would not latch closed. Well, Freedom Walker said we needed to go anyway and hoped that the heat in the car would thaw it out enough to work. So, we drove down the road with him holding the door shut – and it did thaw out! After awhile he was able to close the door and it latched.

We continued to the walk site and he began walking. It was cold, there was snow – and some ice – on the ground, but it was not snowing and the sun came out once in a while.

On one of the roads which was part of miles added in tribute to Kayla Mueller and Officer Tyler Stewart, he met Pastor Matt Daniels, his wife Annette, and Maureen Dowers. We all prayed together before continuing the walk.

Farther down the road, it began snowing!

On the outskirts of Flagstaff, a Navajo couple, Deeanne and Jimmy Walker, greeted Freedom Walker. They had seen pictures of him in the newspaper and were excited to meet him.

After the walk, we met Yvonne, who was interested in the reasons he is walking.

We went to Flagstaff City Hall and met with Mayor Jerry Nabours, who warmly greeted Pastor “Chick”. He was pleased to accept the 40 day prayer guide for our nation, as a memento of this historic walk. He sees this as being significant as the 40 days of Lent recently began.
