Gordon Wheeler, who was standing outside his “Elk Horn Trading and Sporting Goods” store on Rt. 66, met Freedom Walker and had a meaningful conversation about the walk.

Next, Glen Davis stopped Freedom Walker. He is a reporter for the Northern Arizona Gazette, and took pictures and a video of Pastor “Chick” telling about his cause. Afterwards, we had a long conversation and learned that Glen and Pastor Chick have traveled a similar path in life, having much in common, and prayed together before parting.

Pictured below are four more people he encountered, though I don’t know the details. Oh, two of them were from Spain.

The last picture is of a family we met when we returned to Goldie’s Route 66 Diner to eat. David was interested and impressed with our cause and his children, Ziva and Brian, were pleased to receive walk cards to remember this walk by.

Walking down the street in Williams, Arizona, Erica, who manages the Mountain Side Inn, came rushing out to greet Freedom Walker and shake his hand. She is really impressed with, and appreciative of, his mission.

Next, Jeff Pruitt and Ed Lechner came out of Goldie’s Route 66 Diner to greet him and offer him breakfast. Jeff is the owner of the diner and Ed is a 91 year old WW2 veteran, to whom the American flag is very meaningful. They are both very interested and supportive and invited us to return later for a complimentary meal. We did return (after he finished walking) and our breakfast was the best we have eaten in a restaurant recently.

While Freedom Walker was standing there talking with Jeff and Ed, a woman came up behind them with a camera. Her name is Valerie. A co-worker had told her Freedom Walker would be walking through town, so she had been watching for him as she wanted to meet him, take pictures, and learn more about the reasons he is walking. She is very appreciative and supportive.

Matt Broehm, with the VFW, conversed with Freedom Walker. He is very supportive and said he would try to find a church (or churches) that would like to hear him speak about the walk this Sunday.

This morning, as he walked through Williams, he experienced some very meaningful encounters with interested and supportive people.

These experiences began with Patty, who stopped and said she had made something by cross-stitch last night but did not know who she was making it for. When she saw Pastor “Chick” (remembering his name from the news), she knew it was for him!

Arriving in Williams, Mayor John Moore greeted Freedom Walker. He told us that he does not usually meet with walkers, but he did some research and was convinced that this is a genuine and worthy cause.

He called the staff at Grand Canyon News – Ryan Williams and Marissa Freireich – and they met us, took pictures, and did an interview.

Freedom Walker presented a memento of this walk to Mayor John Moore, with Gioia Goodrum, Chamber of Commerce President standing with him.

Vice-Mayor Don Dent also met Freedom Walker and wished him a safe journey.

Keenez (pictured in another post) said “I’ve been seeing you in the news!”
