A couple met us at the finish line. Emilio gave Pastor Chick tokens of his deep appreciation for his service (by means of this walk) to this country. He showed him how these tokens are to be placed by showing him his Ranger cap.

Michelle Kellywood saw him walking, parked, ran across the street, and asked if she could walk with him a ways.

When she was ready to return to her car, a man approached also wanting to walk with him for a ways.

The blessing of these two walkers made this difficult walk much more endurable.

During the time veterans were given opportunity to speak, Emilio Barriga stood up and expressed his appreciation for the walk. He stated that he had seen Pastor Chick walking, carrying the flag, when he was on the way to the VA in Albuquerque. His first thought was that he was a crazy old man. When he thought about it and realized what Pastor Chick is doing, a strong desire to be with him took hold of him. So, this morning when he came to this veterans meeting, heard Pastor Chick speak, and had opportunity to talk to him face to face, he was really blessed.

Veteran Raymond James came up to Pastor Chick, as he was leaving and said “I want you to have this” as he gave him a ‘safety pin flag’. He wants to know when Pastor Chick reaches Santa Monica!

Phillip Ramirez took many pictures at the meeting, which he said he will be posting on their veteran Facebook page.

There were others who spoke their appreciation and support that I do not have individual pictures of.

Arriving at the Veterans Meeting, we met David Cuellar, who had invited us and bought us breakfast. Pastor Chick spoke and David and the group appreciated what he said.

He also was given a sticker to put on his vehicles “I Served Vietnam”.

Driving to the actual site, it looked very grey and dismal.

He passed a ‘Welcome to the City of Gallup” sign, walked 3/4 of a mile, and took a break because he had been invited to attend a veterans meeting in town this morning.

We woke up to find several inches of snow on the ground this morning. We did not find any ice, so decided it was probably walk-able and drive-able. So, we proceeded to the site to begin the walk for the day.
