This morning it was not snowing and we found that the roads in Santa Rosa were pretty clear. Since it was bitterly cold (6 degrees F) we opted to wait til mid-morning to drive to the walk site and start the walk.
We found that I-40 was clear, but the frontage road was not. – it was covered with snow though it could be driven on easily enough. A snow plow cleared it before the walk started, which helped keep his feet warm and dry.
After 13.5 miles he stopped – with droplets of moisture frozen on his mustache!
We had interest in the walk taken by two – one from yesterday and one on the road today.

After entering Joseph’s Restaurant, more than one person asked if he is really walking coast to coast – and in this winter weather!
Yuri communicated his interest as Pastor Chick left Joseph’s Restaurant to finish his walk for the day.
When he returned to eat, a couple of travelers were encouraged by learning about this walk.
As Pastor Chick approached I-40, where he stopped walking today, he met Jim, whom he had previously met in the laundromat. Jim stopped to visit and encourage Pastor Chick.

This morning, as we drove to the site to start the walk, we entered snowy weather and found snow already on the road. At the walk site, it was like a blizzard – cloudy, a little foggy, and blowing snow! The wind was at his back and he started out on his trek.
After about 3 miles, the snow stopped; and halfway through his walk the roads were clear of snow. He told me walking in the snow with the wind at his back is more pleasant than walking in the sunshine with the cold wind in his face.
Pictured below are two varieties of snow-covered cacti seen beside I-40.
Down the road, after leaving the snowy weather, a couple, Josh and Kayla, from Garden City, Kansas, saw him, turned around on the interstate, and returned to talk. They expressed their support and said “This is awesome!”
The walk for today ended after 15.5 miles. Since very cold weather is in the forecast, we decided to purchase another electric heater for our motor home. We found one at Santa Rosa Lumber Hardware store, where much interest in this walk was shown.
