Today we visited the Olive Garden Restaurant. As we were waiting for our server, Ron and Ann Walker came over and asked if we were really walking across America or just bought shirts that said that. After learning more about the walk, they appreciated it and said they will be watching us on the internet and looking for us in the news.

Edith, our server, was very supportive. She asked management to discount our ticket and they donated it!

Shortly after starting the walk, Freedom Walker entered Shamrock, TX. Jeff Blackmon, with County Star-News, met him on the road and took pictures.

The terrain along this route is pretty brown and bare, as you will see in the picture below.

After walking a short distance out of Shamrock, I received a phone call from Shamrock Mayor Buc Weatherby. He had intended to call earlier, but had been tied up in meetings, apologized for missing him as he walked through, and wished him a successful trip as well as God’s blessings.

Freedom Walker had one road-side encounter today. James Woods, who is a veteran and a Christian said he likes what he is walking for. To all of what Pastor Chick told him, he said “That is right!”

We received a very warm welcome at a church we visited in Amarillo.

Also, as we entered the restaurant to eat, Ethan greeted Pastor Chick with his ice cream. His mother, Theresa Quizon is very supportive of our cause. 2 Chronicles 7:14 is her favorite Bible verse.

Katy, our server, listened with great interest and wished us well on the walk.

Mary Lou Hines was excited to meet us. She told us that God saved her life many times, and she took a picture of us.

Arlo stopped to talk, while riding his bicycle. We then met his travel companion, Valentine. The two are bicycling from Boston to CA.

Dudley Daberry stopped to check on me, saying that town was a long distance. As he learned about the reasons for the walk, he took interest. Later, after we drove into Shamrock, we stopped to eat at a restaurant. Dudley was also eating there – and he paid our bill! Thanks for that blessing!

This morning was colder than we expected as it remained cloudy and somewhat foggy. Finally, after noon (almost at the end of today’s walk), the sun burned through the fog and clouds.

After the end of the walk, we drove into Shamrock, TX and visited with Jeff Blackmon, Editor of County Star-News.
